Sammeu Ma — breaking the isolation of GBV survivors

In Togo, fewer than 15% of gender-based violence (GBV) cases are formally reported, due to the lack of an accessible, coordinated and secure system connecting victims, health professionals, justice and social workers. Lebenam enables anonymous and secure reporting, automatic referral to the appropriate services, and funding for victim care through a solidarity fund powered by community economic initiatives.
The system is designed to be accessible without a smartphone: a victim in a remote area can call an existing toll-free number and leave a voice message, which is automatically converted into a case file and forwarded to the nearest facility. A USSD protocol is also planned for basic phones without internet access.
The project won first prize at Hack4Peace (WANEP, supported by UNFPA) in 2026. Its adaptation to the Senegalese context, deployed under the name 'Sammeu Ma' ('protect me' in Wolof), qualified the team for the international final of AfyaFest Senegal 2026 in Dakar.
